Submission Guidelines

We publish themed poetry, prose poetry, microfiction and art, written in the English language. We also welcome submissions of poetry and prose poems in English-language translation. This year we are publishing one or two essays as part of our Biopilia theme and are opening submissions for 200 word pitches (we are more disposed to lyric essays eg, Sarah Westcott, The Shape of a Frog) We are always excited to read new writers, and creative submissions, as well those previously published by The Winged Moon.

We publish:

Poetry (around 30 lines is our limit)

Prose Poetry  (300 word limit)

Micro Fiction (300 word limit)

Essays (200 word pitch,  1500 word limit )

Art

We do not publish one line poetry, haiku (unless in a haibun) or other poetry forms of that size. Nor do we publish any work that is disrespectful to any group. We reserve the right to remove an author at any time. We are not especially favourable to work that overtly references technology or the electronic world. Please read our last issue to have a feel for our writing and artistic preferences.

Before you send your work:

Please have a look on our website and subscribe to the substack magazine (you can for free) to read the previous issues before submitting https://thewingedmoon.substack.com/ and to support The Winged Moon, please consider becoming a paid subscriber.

Please only TWO written pieces in total.

Art submissions please send THREE maximum.

You can submit to our written genres (poetry, prose poetry, micro fiction and essay) plus our art genre.

Simultaneous submissions are accepted and previously published work within respectful limits. Please let us know where your piece has been published. We read all of the submissions after the deadline, so please bear that in mind before sending your work simultaneously. We will give a response within four weeks of the submission deadline. If you would give us this space to reflect on the work you have submitted to us, we would be grateful. If your submission is accepted elsewhere before we have replied to you, please take a moment to send a quick email to thewingedmoonmagazine@gmail.com to let us know.

We are not able to provide print complimentary copies to contributors at the moment as we have chosen a print on demand service from Amazon. You can support The Winged Moon please look to purchase a print version of our issues, available here

As we recognise the value of talent, we are beginning our tentative steps toward paying our contributors. We hope to pay around 10 euros minimum to each writer and artist within our print magazine . We are working toward a sustainable way to increase our payment by raising revenue. Would you like to support us to do so? There are a number of different ways, see the section below.

Thank you for trusting The Winged Moon with your work.
