Editor's note

Threading its mycelial circuitry through the heart of this issue is the statement ‘Feelings are older than humans’.

How that might elicit a radical poiesis in the furniture of our language and thinking. A re-evolution from what is outside as an inside and vice versa. How, when inviting the theme Biophilia, we hoped that our submitters might stretch novel language to meet the more than human, to touch the “more than human possibility”. From perhaps a previous notion that we are at the exterior of nature they might attempt to comprehend the poetic dimension of biology and in fact meet themselves there as a deeply woven part.

The writing, essay and art within Biophilia are intentionally chosen for their interpretive mien. Twenty six singular textures we have stuck through our efforts back into the umwelt. We hope that you enjoy the way each piece communicates the central statement like luminous rhizomes, each essential to the whole.

This magazine could not exist without its generous, intelligent, conscientious volunteers. This issue has been an incomparable joy. From collaborating with our contributing editors; Victoria Spires, Marcelle Newbold and Vikki C who offered their time and talent from the planning stages last winter, deepening in so many ways the marrow of this magazine and this issue in particular, where we received a record number of submissions. They have been a scaffold upon which art, nature and friendship have been able to commingle and flourish. Thank you. To our incredible behind the scenes Lana A and Andrea Gerada our assistant managing editors; Andrea who has made the background so smooth for all of us during the submission process and Lana, who has been a part of almost every process her contribution is so huge. To our editor support staff Noel Cowley and Leusa Lloyd and our art department Seraphine Saintclair who along with myself and Lana sought and found art that exceeded our wildest imagination. Thank you and congratulations to each one of you for making this issue come to life.

Thank you to the submitters, our readers, we exist because of your attention and support.

Finally, we must thank all life for participating in this issue, each mineral, creature, plant and element contained in the drops of colour and in each worded form.
