CAVE PAINTINGS
Marc Brimble
I was not accustomed to the dark,
but I could see bent figures
among the stalagmites.
I reached into the hole
to pick them out,
but my fingers were too big.
I heard their voices,
faint echoes
older than the legends.
Paint, they said.
Paint the past.
Our imaginations are wild horses
on empty plains.
Paint the future,
I told them.
We are waiting for you.
WINGS OF SOUNDLESS MUSIC
Seraphine Saintclair
I am tiptoeing across
A shadow auraed sea
Dreaming hidden starlight
Upon my hands which
Shimmer into primordial laughter
And my flowers are only
Blooming inside echoes
Of worlds crowned with poetry and myth
But I will fly towards them
On wings of soundless music
A MENAGERIE OF AIR
Carella Keil
Shadows stretch to infinity. The moon rolls across the sky, a silver marble. Clouds
flutter; the torn wings of moths. I trace their forms with my mind. Unicorns with silky
manes, gazebos of white smoke, translucent jellyfish, lacy nightgowns and smooth
marble bodies. Constellations strung together by the invisible threads of imagination
stitch up the night. I toss in bed, counting breaths and needlepoint stars, and am pulled
like a thread into dream.
A WAKING DREAM WHICH HOLDS MORE KNOWLEDGE THAN ONE CAN CARRY
Amanda Emilio
You contemplate slivers
where breath separates from bone.
Light is but a hollow, shallow sputter
as moment-to-moment
hope slowly abandons the body.
Aroma of roses lifts the soul
in its great travelling
of exuberance made manifold.
Oh, if it were not for the gilded epiphany!
Hours fading into honeysuckle,
shrubs infinitum,
living far richer under sky of plum
under shades and shades more lucid
than colour,
decipher the language of stars
in search for cathedrals –
of this you pray.
Upon such wakeful start,
you are reunited with a form
humming with an unknown worship.
Outside, there is a trust building between
late blooming hyacinths
that simple smattering of pastels
bordering walkways winding through
drought-famished lawns –
God’s gaze securely affixed.
