ANCESTRY
Kamakshi Lekshmanan
noticed, felt. As I put my
feet on the fading frost, on a trail
in a world appearing to unfurl
by the edge of River Colne, I heard the Robins
ring their songs deep into
my sensory.
the flakes of cocoa mud
bordered by flavours of spring
marooned by the occasional wind
is where I discovered the mystery
of the English weather-
the webby flakes of snow
feather touch rains
blues of the rainbow
the fanta sky
all as a chorus
or in solitude
appear and disappear
the Wivenhoe walk
lifted me on a trail
a path I walked
a red thread is a primal proverb
connecting the gone
and a today
a brief timeline
between me and a land..
..a nightingale sang
the farewell song..
the kind of farewells I long!
