FROM THE EDITOR:

etched into pottery, a woman. horses on wheels. tree rings. a planet with no forearms. songs concealed in folk dolls, words strung in gold across time. they breathe the fields. fire into wing. smoke like a blue dart. teardrop stain excavated from the falling earth.

welcome to our ANCIENT issue, we are honoured to bring you these poems and art pieces from a vast sky of creative talent. the visual art in this issue is a portal and a guide. a way in. we like to marry these with our writing, each piece curated in resonance with the surrounding work. we are thankful for each piece, visual and written, and the symphony that has composed itself in our hands.

in our writing, you will encounter infinite tapestries painted across the strata of human experience, the granular memory of stone. myths, artefacts, and writing recollected from the hourglass of time, newly exhibited. the quarrel and passions of deities in our collective imagination, seeding and reseeding in our present selves. we learn here, to worship a tree, what abides in the fossil of us, luring us like a white light. we hear the words from the long dead, the ancestor shaman, the suck and pull of tides. we speak a forgotten language. reawaken a species. perhaps it is our own.

thank you for reading
